Homeland Security PowerPoint Available for Public Education Courses

During 2003, the Education Department will be adding Homeland Security information to every PowerPoint presentation utilized in the Auxiliary.  However, at present, with the move to the Department of Homeland Security we are still attempting to more clearly define "Maritime Domain Awareness" and also better understand the Homeland Security concerns of the US Army Corps of Engineers relative to inland assets.  In the meantime, we have added to the Education Department PE Media Library an excellent presentation developed last year by the Operation Boat Smart project and encourage you to use this in all your PE programs to begin to make the recreational boating public even more aware of their part in Homeland Defense.  SpeedGram 2003-03 will provide you with more details.  (Adobe Acrobat™ format, 79KB). State Boating Law Administrator Communications Go Live

A project initiated by the E Department with the involvement of the B Department is now reality!  Members interested in receiving updates on whatever states they are involved with can enter appropriate electronic contact data into a database utility the E Department has developed.  Once the member has provided the requested information and selected the state(s) of interest, their E-mail address will be added to a list server for the selected state(s).  Then, when the Boating Law Administrator for the state(s) distributes information regarding statutory/regulatory changes, it will be instantly transmitted to any member who has signed up for information regarding that state.  The service is available to National, District, Division, and Flotilla Staff Officers and elected Officers, State Liaison Officers, and others with an interest in such information.
52 list servers have been established so that every State and National Association of State Boating Law Administrators involved in areas where there is a US Coast Guard Auxiliary presence can disseminate information.  The E Department Division Chief for Special Projects and the Boating Department will be notifying all State Boating Law Administrators of this new service concurrent with the release of SpeedGram 2003-02.  (Adobe Acrobat™ format, 82KB).

Risk Management Program Clarification

The program Risk Management in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary is available for download to be delivered on the flotilla level.  Participation in this program will satisfy the requirements of the National Transportation Safety Board mandate for risk management training and currency maintenance in CG Auxiliary programs.  Individuals who are qualified or seek to be qualified in US Coast Guard programs (CG boat crew, operations center or communications watch standing, etc.) are still required to participate in Team Coordination Training.  Team Coordination Training is also required for Qualification Examiners.
Risk Management in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary should be facilitated by a qualified instructor who has substantial operational experience (e.g. coxswain).  It is anticipated that individuals with substantial operational experience can bring their knowledge and judgment to the discussion and enrich the training for all participants.
There are four parts to this program, all in Adobe Acrobat™ format. .  There is a Participant Guide (341 KB), a Facilitator's Guide (465 KB), and an Interactive Case Study (231 KB).  Facilitators may also choose to use the Risk Management Slides (1.09 MB) to add interest to the presentation.  This presentation will not be made available as a PowerPoint slide presentation, but can be used in Adobe Acrobat" format to display with LCD projection equipment.  (Open file in Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0, insure that the single slide option located at the bottom left of the screen has been chosen, and view as full screen.  The slides are advanced using the "Enter" key). Correction of ANSC 7012 (6-02) VSC Printed Form

There is a printing error on the new 7012 (6-02) form (hard copy version).  The shadings in the N/A column were printed one line lower than they should have been.  The on-line version of the 7012 (6-02) on the National Forms Web Site is correct.  This problem will be corrected when new forms are printed.  Until then, use up the present stock of forms.  The form may be corrected by putting an "X" on lines 3, 8, and 14 in the N/A column. Activity Report- Mission, Form ANSC-7030 Revised

The form, Activity Report- Mission, ANSC-7030 (2-03), has been updated to include PE course completion information.  Users of this edition will no longer need to submit ANSC-7033 to report PE statistics.  Members reporting PE activity other than the last mission for a class must not enter data in the course completion section, with only one member making the entry for each completed class.  The previous edition (1-03) may be used until supplies are exhausted; form 7033 would have to be used also to report class completion with that edition.  When supplies of the 1-03 edition are exhausted, form 7033 will become obsolete.  NOTE: You will notice that the requirement to enter whether the course was a "state" course has been eliminated; users selecting mission 04U are indicating by that selection that it was a "state" course.

Editors note: check this form frequently online and look at the pages describing the Missions as they are undergoing changes this year.
