Annual Route 66 Days
Whether you are a Kansas resident or a visitor., make plans now to attend the seventh annual Route 66 Days June , 2007 at Riverton, Kansas, with the theme of “. ” The theme will kick-off the events on June at 7 p.m. with an old fashioned gospel sing-a-long at the Riverton High School Auditorium with area churches participating. Activities for the will be announced at a later day.
Regardless how you look at it, Route 66 will always stand for one thing—going somewhere.. The first event will be the traditional Route 66 5K Classic on a certified course starting and ending at Rainbow Curve Bridge. First-place trophies will be awarded immediately followings the race in each class (19 and under, 20-29; 30-39, 40-49, 50 and over) of male and female.
“Get Your Kicks on Route 66” registration will begin for the 25-class car show at 9 a.m. at the north parking lot of Riverton High School and continue until noon when judging will begin. Trophies will be awarded after 2:30 p.m. for first place with plaques for second and third place. One trophy will be awarded for the greatest number of miles traveled to the show.
A special attraction this year will be a parade on Route 66 with two F16s flying over before the event starts at 10:30 a. m. (This has not been officially finalized from Washington D.C. until 60 days before the event.) All veterans will participate in the parade as well as Baxter Springs VFW flag guard and the Cherokee County honors guard. Participants are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue and wave their flags as the groups march past them. In addition to the special groups, Harley Davidson, Corvettes, and special performing group from the Four State area.
Again this year is the renewal of wedding vows at the bridge at 6:30 p.m. The goal is to have couples join hands, reinforce “Love and Marriage”—Over the Rainbow” forever-- the complete length of the bridge! Requirements for the event are a $10 entry fee plus an essay about the couple. Essays will be judged in the following categories--funniest, saddest, youngest couple married, and the most unforgetable experience in their marriage—with awards presented in each class. All of the stories will be compiled and every one participating in the renewal of vows will have a book of all couples and be special guests at the reception following the wedding.
The curtain will close with the stress-free wedding at the Rainbow Curve Bridge at 7:30 p.m. The only cost for the wedding will be the $10 entry fee, picture of the couple, and an essay entitled “Why This Couple Should Be Chosen” plus the Kansas marriage license. The lucky couple chosen from the essays written will be judged and announced by May . Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will follow with the lucky couple departing on their honeymoon on the most famous highway—Route 66—through the Land of Oz and beyond discovering the Mother Road.

3.Mail a one page essay of “Why We Should Be The Couple Selected” along with your picture and a $10 fee to

4. The selcted Wedding couple is responsible for the marriage license and fee. Couple will be required to make application for their marriage license through the county in a timely manner and provide proof of valid license. License fee is $75
5) The lucky couple will be chosen from the essays written, essays will be judged and announced by May .
6). Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will follow with the lucky couple departing on their honeymoon on the most famous highway—Route 66

 We will have renewal of wedding vows ceremony at the bridge at 6:30 p.m. The goal is to have couples join hands, reinforce “Love and Marriage”—Over the Rainbow” forever-- the complete length of the bridge!
