Bruce was born December 1951 and has been in the farming community of Colby, population 5500 in northwest Kansas, virtually all of his life. He graduated from Colby Community College in 1972 and from Kansas State University in 1975 with a BS degree in Computer Science.

Janice was born October 1950 and came to Colby in 1973 to teach at CCC, after graduating from Southwestern College with a BA in 1972 and KSU with a MS in Home Economics in 1973. She grew up in southeast Kansas in a ranching family. We farm (see our agriculture links below).
We live 4 miles from town, and our house has an interesting history. Built around 1910 (the right half in the photo) in Decatur County, it was used as a returning WW1 soldiers' convalescent home. Largely because of an ornate Victorian ball & dowel screen delineating the living room, the niece of the deceased owner desired to move the house 70 miles to its present location. The locally renowned barn mover John Kropp said "Don't move it" and so did the niece's husband, but nonetheless Kropp got his orders in the late 70s and sixty power and phone line removals later, the job was done. By the time we bought the house from the S&L, the foreclosed-on previous owners had removed the fancy woodwork, stained glass windows and other items. Find out about our house's "haunted" past.
Sons Jon who graduated from KSU in Computer and Info Sciences, and Karlyn who attends third grade, are a source of joy. .........Chamber of Commerce website
