MT. SUNFLOWER EXPEDITION The Sandhills ARC is joining us for an expedition to the highest point in Kansas, near Weskan, on the weekend of May 2. We've been issued the prestigious 1 X 1 callsign KØS ("Kansans On Sunflower"?) for this operation, which will be plugged in QST and Worldradio. The Sandhills guys will bring a 9-man tent courtesy of WØOAG, and push-up masts. We've agreed to bring yagis and trailer tower. Both groups will bring rigs, antennas, logging computers etc. There are many odds and ends to be settled on this and we'll do some of that at the meeting. We have good email ties in to the SHARC club and are continuing to get things nailed down. The plan is to get some of the operation going by dinner time Friday. As more folks and gear show up, we'll expand to more transmitters and give folks a shot at working KØS and Wallace County. This should be great training for Field Day, which will be less than 2 months after this event. Hmmm, come to think of it, as cool as Field Day Sunday morning usually is, we'd better have the long johns along at Mt. Sunflower!

KSNK ID? John Adams at KSNK TV in Oberlin has inquired about our club doing a taped station ID for them. Various groups in nw KS are being asked to do this. Hey, what better group than a bunch of hams to do a station ID? "QRZ, this is Kilo Sierra November Kilo".... well, maybe not quite like that. We'll discuss a possible taping session time an dlocation at the meeting and get in touch with John via email.

DAYTON, ANYONE? KØBJ is driving to Dayton May 14, and would welcome someone to split driving and motel room. Bruce plans to start returning midmorning Sunday, in time to make his niece's graduation Sunday in Topeka.

MIDWEST/DAKOTA DIVISION CONVENTION South Sioux City, NE is the scene for the combined ARRL division convention May 29-30. The Marina Inn is on the banks of the Missouri River and special guests this year are ARRL EVP Dave Sumner K1ZZ, and QRP guru and author Adrian Weiss WØRSP. It's a fair journey from Colby but a 'different' and rewarding convention.

BANDSCAN BT Shawn KCØCVS and XYL have completed their move to north of Colby. Shawn returned home to the Pittsburg area over spring break and brought back a HT which he's been using mobile. BT KCØCVT and KBØMBS took their HTs to the state Science Olympiad in Wichita, in which they both competed. The rigs helped them keep in touch as they raided the malls. Keith won the state silver medal in "Surfing the Net" and both enjoyed the competition. BT Thanks to the good number of Trojans who turned out for the weather spotting meeting after the March meeting. Dennis KBØNYC had a slick PowerPoint laptop-based presentation for the Thomas County session, which was well attended by city employees and county residents as well as hams. BT KØBJ's FT1000MP took a trip back to Yaesu for some work. Bruce left the rig on during some ice-induced power drops and the switching power supply in it apparently died. In the meantime he's got the normally mobile TS50 in the shack.

NEXT MEETING APRIL 9 7PM CDT THOMAS HALL GOVE ROOM Topics include Mt. Sunflower expedition planning and KSNK videotaping schedule. Program will be a ham-related video.
