KØFJ & KBØLGX RECOGNIZED IN PAPER Mike and Gerry, and our hobby got some nice coverage in the Colby Free Press Dec. 10 when an article talked about the SCEDA system the two set up to monitor and command the various water wells run by the city of Colby. The guys gave credit to ham radio for some of the skills used to save the city lots of $ on installation of the system. Good work guys!

KØFJ's TOWER IS A VHF KILLER Mike has been enjoying good results with his newly-relocated tower. He has an 11 el. yagi for 2 up about 50' on his Rohn tower, and with the extra height of South Franklin thrown in, he's been having good luck with 2m repeaters. He can hit the Hays machine most of the time, and can often bring up the front-range Rockies repeaters.

NEW FORM 610 MUST BE USED FOR RENEWALS After years of accepting older Form 610s, the FCC now will accept ONLY the new forms, which include a signed statement that the applicant has evaluated their station for RF exposure. The good news is, with revised 'triggering' power limits, most stations will not be subject to analysis, and those that are will for the most part pass, or easily be made compliant. KØBJ has a supply of the new Form 610s.

BANDSCAN BT WBØVOQ is getting back on the air just in time to enjoy the upswing in sunspots. Corky is going with vintage gear - A Viking 2 and Hammarlund HQ-170. He reports good results with a ground-mounted vertical. BT Welcome to KB7NWG. Jerry is in Colby through mid-January and will be returning frequently to do upgrades on old IBM-compatible computer systems. Jerry's from Denver, and lives here at a relative's near Rexford. BT Don KØPV, now on the banks of the Missouri River, is on 75 (3973) AMs around 7:30 Central and on 3898 after 8AM. He'd enjoy hearing from Trojans and others. Don, do you have the Bighorn Museum on display yet? KØPV and XYL don't lack for vintage gear! BT Larry KCØBNV has a new toy out at the landfill -- a weather station which puts readings in a database. Sure beats the old system of calling up the airport automated wx recordings. BT KØBJ has a 62' aluminum tower up, but it's only minimally loaded. No, not with an anemometer.... Bruce has an inverted L up which he can run with a tuner for fair results on the HF bands. He hopes to have it all guyed and ready for yagis in Feb. BT Keith Ellis, a Colby high school junior, has a little extra incentive to get his ham ticket. He's now the owner of a TH22 2m HT. Good luck on the Tech test Keith. (he already has a Novice CSCE) BT KØBJ will be in the Cayman Islands with his family Jan. 18-24. He'll try to monitor 14.285 (21.285 backup) most evenings at 2330GMT. Callsign should be ZF2CM, ZF2NJ, ZF2BJ, ZF2FJ or ???

NEXT MEETING January 8*** 7:00PM CST*** Program is an ARRL video on antenna construction, recommended by KBØMBT's good friend KAØKCI. Discussion items include rethinking the swapfest commitment, plans for a repeater shed workday and permanent move to 7pm meetings.
