HARMONIC SCHEDULE Unfortunately your editor was traveling to the west coast last month, and missed getting the Harmonic out. Thanks to NØXNJ and KBØMBT for getting word out to club members. The late harvest made Field Day easy to attend for most of us, but it's playing havoc with publishing the Harmonic again. Next month may not be much better, as we'll have our English friend Barrie with us and I'll be between the Amana IA hamfest and a family reunion in Omaha at meeting time. Maybe the September issue will be decent?! k0bj

FIELD DAY FUN The decision to return to Phillips Park this year was a popular one. There was less QRN with most of Colby Plaza QRT and the location lets families drop by easily. Our "new" T1000 computers from NØZTM netwroked nicely and CT made logging a pleasure. We used KGØPI's IC751, KØFJ's TS820, NØZTM's TS520 for Novice/Tech and KØBJ's TS50/TenTec converter for 6M. The 6M band opened up a couple times for a number of sporadic E QSOs. As 2A we made ~800QSOs -- 600 SSB and 200 cw. Another fun aspect this year was the decision NOT to jump through hoops to get the 'stunt' bonuses for satellite, natural power, packet etc. This cut down on lugging equipment and disrupting normal operations -- our manpower just isn't great enough. We gave up about 600 bonus points, but also will earn about 600. The cookouts were well-attended, and we had the equipment donors plus KBØMBT KBØLGX NØXNO NØTES KBØMBS and now-KCØBNV, Larry, manning the radios. A rain/lightning storn took us off from about 2:00-4:30AM, taking some time from Gregg and Gerry's graveyard stint. Results will be in November QST and we'll have a wrapup with our expected score before then.

.SUNRAYCE KØFJ KØMXU KBØMBS KBØVUS and KØBJ were the members who could help out with the Sunrayce from before Oberlin through St. Francis June 26-7, just in time for a Field Day warmup. Learning from last time, we placed less reliance on VHF and more on 75M. 2M was used by Mike to get info in to downtown Oberlin for a heads-up on arriving cars, then 75M relayed info on morning and afternoon checkpoint arrivals to Oberlin and St. Francis. Allen set his 75M mobile whip on a tank (the Army kind) at the C-Mart in Atwood and had a 'booming' (heh heh) at times signal. A gun turret rotatable vertical -- wow! Bruce, Jon and Jack set up the club tower at the finish line in St. Francis and used Mike's 75M dipole to get info for the results board. These 3 guys had supper in St. Francis with Norm NØJCC, the KSU prof. responsible for the Sunrayce entry by KSU. Their team took 24th of 36 this year, a pleasing result for a first-timer. Last year's winner MIT took 2nd place, losing out the Cal. State Univ. LA. As before this was a fun event for all concerned. Thanks to Bennett W5ZTN Larrt WE0T and his XYL Lana (call?) for helping out and getting us pointed the right direction.

KØRXT Fleck has been in and out of the hospital recently, still straightening out things after his visit to Denver. He has some kidney and circulation problems, and your editor isn't up to date on the latest. We hope you're mending Fleck and will soon be harassing people again!

NEW HAM Congratulations to Larry Jumper KCØBNV. Larry passed the test at Allen KØMXU's QTH with KØFJ and KØBJ also on the VE team. Sonya KBØYFO was also on hand and a tour of Allen's shack was enjoyed by all after the exams. Larry is landfill supervisor and becomes another City of Colby employee who is a ham. Congratulations Larry!

BANDSCAN BT Jim KGØPI and family will shortly be /KH6. They are taking a cruise ship excursion to 5 of the Hawaiian islands. Jim claims he's not going to take any gear along on this trip, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear reports of a ship sinking after SOMEONE bored a hole in the side to run coax..... BT Bruce KØBJ is growing tired of relying on a TS50 as his de facto main home rig - the rx isn't the greatest. He's hoping to get out to HRO and unload some bucks on a new rig soon. BT KØBJ KBØMBS and Janice will be headed to Newington shortly for the ARRL BoD meeting. THey'll visit friends in Gloucester MA afterward, and plan on attending the Yankee Clipper Contest Club BBQ at the home of ARRL staff member Glenn KB1GW. BT Norm Dillman N0JCC, the KSU Sunrayce faculty advisor, is a familiar face to some Trojans. He and his XYL Phyllis dropped in on our Field Day a few years back, on their way to Colorado.

NEXT MEETING MAY 8 CCC UNION ROOM 107 This room is on teh SE side of teh Student Union. If for some reason it's not open, plan to regroup at Helen Frahm's house 1015 Maize Road.

440 repeater plans and foxhunt are likely action subjects. There will probably be war stories from Field Day and Sunrayce as well.
