BANDSCAN Oops, sorry about the stale month on the meeting date last
issue. Hope everybody got it figured out. BT Now that we're paying
'real money' for photocopying, the puzzles will be suspended for a
while. If you need solutions to unsolved prior ones, contact KF0MJ
or K0BJ. BT Greg N0XNL has been copying some activity on his 6M rig
acquired at the Trojan swapfest. He got beat out for a QSO with
Chicago, and also heard some activity from Oklahoma. The sporadic E
skip season will be on the rise the next couple months. BT What
ISN'T on the rise is sunspots. Bruce K0BJ hosted the 7th grade
Advanced Science class at his QTH for a ham demo. They checked the
sun in his telescope, and the sun was spot-free! Goodbye to
consistent, great DX for a couple years. BT Gerry KB0LGX and family
enjoyed a few days in the Windy City, including a Cubs game. Gerry
has KF0MJ's old trashed Alinco, now factory-refurbished and had that
toy to play with on the trip. BT David N0SEG is working on
converting an old 450 Mhz Regency rig to the 435 Mhz satellite band.
The hope is to have it, and a high-gain helix antenna, done in time
for some OSCAR 13 435/144 Mhz activity at Field Day. BT KB0JRW Jim
claims that mowing lawns -- his, his rental property, and his
parents', is 'cutting' into operating time. Better 'mow down' some
pileups too, Jim! BT Trojan wannabe Lee Strickler was in the
hospital recently with stomach and liver surgery. Happy to report
that although he's been pretty sore, he's doing well. Lee, did you
try some of those 'subliminal learning tapes' while conked out and
under the knife?? BT N0QGB and N0OXP are among the new employees at
Office Works, the new store in town with many of the old WOS
personnel. They are located just north of Colby Tire & Battery. Good
luck, Dick and Patti! BT Sounds as though Wray CO may be getting a
repeater up in the next few months. It's good to see some activity
toward populating the wilds of the High Plains with machines. BT
Nasty wx May 24 got area hams deployed on their second round of
spotting for the season. David N0SEG once again did NCS duties from
NWS. This time it was battlefield conditions, as 96 mph winds had
removed part of the NWS roof, as well as having folded WA0GBN's
tower in half. A number of Darel's antennas were beat up. To top it
off, the NEXrad Doppler radar was offline. KLBY tv carried a nice
pat-on-the-back to the club from Dennis Hull at NWS. BT K0RXT KB0MBS
and K0BJ are taking up pool after Ham Lunch. If you wanna learn how
to bounce balls off the rail, or signals off the inonsphere, stay
after HL and catch this act. (PS Minnesota Fats has nothing to worry
about) BT Not fast-breaking news, but Fred WD0EBJ claims to now be
retired from the nightclub music circuit. Fred, if you're not
heterodyning at Mr. C's, better do so all the more on the ham
bands.(and Happy Retirement)(his call has been on packet recently)
BT Kiss Goodbye to the 'Hammobile'. Mike KF0MJ traded off the
mature green station wagon for a (sorta) new Ford Ranger pickup. All
the junque he picks up at hamfests will now have to ride UNcovered
in the back. Pray for no rain, Mike. BT Gavon's bought the minimum
25 issues of the new Radio Shack mag RADIO! They sell for $1.95 and
the first quarterly issue has 3 scanner articles, 4 on SWL/BCB, 5 on
'communicating' - ham and GMRS info, equipment reviews, etc, and 7
tech. articles, mostly fairly elementary. If Gary gets most of them
pedaled he'll probably purchase the Summer '94 issue. BT N0XNL
KB0MBS K0BJ and Janice (poor girl) spent Memorial Day weekend up at
BJ's mountain condo in Dillon CO. Wx was great, and the trip home
included a stop at HRO to look at goodies.
NEXT MEETING JUNE 9 **1015 MAIZE RD. COLBY (HELEN FRAHM'S PATIO
In two weeks Field Day is here! Further discussion on remounting the
repeater antenna, the June 14 disaster drill and plans for the trip
to the Bighorn Museum in Byers are other issues.
