NWS RADAR SOFTWARE Those who were at the May meeting at NWS were quite impressed with the nifty shareware package that converts a 1.5K packet file into a very decent, multicolor display of the NWS Doppler radar. The plan is to have Goodland and Dodge City radar info available at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour. Some work remains to be done, both at BBSGLD and with the software distribution. QRX!
DON'T FORGET NET NIGHTS KFOMJ and KBOLGX report a little falloff in net checkins. We've had pretty good representation; let's keep it up. It's good training (especially if YOU bring traffic to the net) as well as a nice time for roundtable visiting. Remember District 3 zone .39 ARES net Thursdays 9PM CT,, on I46=.82 repeater.
CLUB PROJECT STATUS A good crew put i n a LONG evening working on
the mobile command post. There is additional work to be done before
it's ready, as well as painting/welding repairs to the portable
tower. Lend a hand, if possible, when work: nights are announced.
MORE COMPUTER VIRUS INFO Things are running amuck i n cyberspace after the introduction of the Paul Revere virus:
FEB BUREAUCRAT VIRUS - divides your hard drive into little units, each of which does nothing, but all of which claim highest priority.
FED ECONOMIST VIRUS - Nothing works, but all diagnostic software says everything is OK.
FREUDIAN VIRUS - Your computer becomes obsessed with marrying its own motherboard.
TED TURNER VIRUS - Colorizes your monochrome monitor.

SPOTTERS COME THROUGH A good crew around Colby were deployed and working Dennis KBONYC at NWS (later replaced by Dave NOSEG> the day of the Colby to Hoxie tornadoes. In fact Gerry KBOLGX had the airport funnel almost landing in his lap! Heavy rains prevented spotting the tornadoes that brought down the Sunflower 200KV line and tossed around bins and sprinkler systems.BANDSCAN BT Darel WAOGBN was too late getting back. from Dayton to
make the last Bandscan. He was a swap table maven while there, and
among the deals he made was trading his Tempo One HF xcvr for an RCI
Ranger 2950, a 10 watt ^b-32 Mhz allmode xcvr. Good trade Darel, but
c'mon, learn that code! BT Michaela, daughter of KGOPI, transmitted
some nice heterodynes the other Sunday at the Methodist Church in
Colby.-Er, actually that was a flute she used to play special music
at the worship service. BT When Mike KFOMJ moved to City Hall he
knew he'd be getting away from wrenches and grease guns but did he
expect this? He's now enrolled in a Certified Novell Engineer class,
which is pretty deep. This should make him quite the networking
guru. BT We got a very nice Thank You card from Lora Lee Strain for
the plant Kathy sent in WAODAV's memory. Hamming was very big on
Dean's list for a number of years and Lora Lee remembers many
friendships made "on the air". BT The SAREX mission in June will be
using 145.84 as a downlink, and 144.45 and 144.47 uplinks, due to
the docking with MIR which operates 145.55 simplex.
NEXT MEETING ,JUNE 8 Field Day & Sunrayce plans will be big items. Meet at H Frahm house, 1015 Maize Rd in Colby SW of Methodist Church
