Participants are planning to arrive in Colby by land, air and sea ( if Fleck canoes from Villa Hi!). ? from

Greeley reports that a Piper Turbo Arrow, Beech Baron and Cessna Skyhawk will fly in. NOTES reports many

in the Phillipsburg area plan to came, and we have lots of other reports. Among our confirmed vendors are

Hayes Computer and N0OYN's Digital Weather instrument business from last year, and Old West Graphics,

a new vendor of signs and decals oriented to amateurs. He specializes in low-cost 'one-off' decals and will have

a supply of Trojan ARC logo decals for inside-window applications. This swapfest will have something for

everybody. Be Sure to attend!

MARK HASSELBUSCH N0IQP SILENT KEY Mark: N0IQP of Oberlin became a

Silent Key March 2 from a heart attack. Nat very active an the air

recently, Mark maintained his interest and membership in our club,

and was active on both HF and 2 meters in earlier times. Mark went

to Viet Nam as part of the mar effort. He was the owner of Wards in

Colby at about the time John KA0FBQ was involved with the store.

After a move to 7 land with Wards, he returned to Oberlin. We will

miss Mark's smile, happy outlook and support of the Trojan ARC.

PACKET UPDATE Dennis KB0NYC has decided NOT to be sysop of the NWS

packet system. David NOSEG will be sysap. Node call will be NthSEG-5,

AFOS automated w:, info has been run to the packet station area, and

Ns%fSEG continues to do 'software development' (crying in his pillow

after long, frustrating evenings at NWS) with some help from WA0VJR.

DAYTON MAMVENTION TRIP PLANNED Bruce K0BJ, Jim KGOPI and Butch WA0VJR are planning to

drive to Dayton's Hamvention this year, possibly with others going along. The scenic 15 hour trip will pass by

quicker by installing a mobile ham station, and mill start Thursday April 2? about 5pm. They'll arrive at ham

radio Mecca about noun Friday, leave noon Sunday and be back: early Monday morning. There'll be 2 nights

at the Dayton Marriott. They are looking for other victims hams interested in going. Cast will depend on total

making the trip but gas/hotel/admission should run just <$is%ff%f/per person, leaving meals and those famous

Hamvention bargains to spend your hard-won cash on. Contact KGOPI or K0BJ if interested.

BANDSCAN BT Mike KF0MJ has a new job title with the City of

Colby: Director of Finance & Computer Systems Analyst. Along with

that is a new office at City Hall, a closet full of pin-stripe

suits, and a bundle of overalls going to U-Save! (not to mention the

telltale scent of rere.:•r fluid perfume when he comes home).

Congratulations, too, to Berry KB0LGX who moves up to Mike's

position as Director of Public Works. Colby hams can rest secure in

the knowledge that all thane city light pales they have tied their

dipoles to will STILL be given a blind eye. Your fellow Trojans

WBs%fE1R of Goad land, who has donated the conduit needed to make the

runs up the elevator for the Gaadland repeater. BT Allen K0MXU heard

the K51S balloon beacon out of Texas a couple weekends ago. It was

an 146.8^ and was overridden by the local machine, but loud enough

to heterodyne with it. This was the latest North Texas Balloon

Project flight out of the Dallas area. BT Larry NOZTM's 12 year old

cousin from Pratt recently was licensed. Larry now has 2 Pratt

relatives to ham it up with. The long-awaited Bencher keyer has

arrived. BT Bruce KOBJ snagged Australia on ifa0 meters i n the ARRL

DX contest. The morning gray-path man the ticket for his is%30 watts

and inverted L to make the trip. BT Don KOPVI of Bighorn Museum

reports success in obtaining the 1OF' sq,ft. building in Genoa to

house his museum of classic ham gear. With 600 pieces of gear from

the 2s%fs - 7s%3s, numerous publications, and 9 operational stations and

mare planned, this will be a super project. Dan is soliciting

donations for purchase of the building far back taxes of $4s%fs%f0. Mare

Oak Hills watt , ? Meter rig. It was aligned courtesy of KB0MBT and

the K-N service monitor, with Ns%fXNCI and KOBJ looking on. Jim reports

checkout. BT Jim Nelson AA4Vq, ex-WA0TUS of Rexford, is running a i^

watt ?s3 Meter SS5 MFJ rig from his home in Columbia SC. He had a 1

element quad taped to the interior wall & KOBJ worked him with S4

signals. VQ then fashioned a full-nave wire antenna outdoors and is

noun s-b at Bruce's. Jim has been packeting with some Trojans but his

tnc is on the fritz at the moment. BT Fleck K0RXT has been grumbling

of late about the lack: of email in his packet mailbox. Turns out he

toad a misset parameter, and his STAtus light wasn't winking when he

got nevi mail. Once he checked the box, he felt laved again. Thanks

to KF0MJ Mike far getting Fleck an track (again). HT David NOTES and

Bruce KOBJ traveled to Phillipsburg for a dinner meeting of the

Phillips Ca. ARC. They have a very active club that has taught and

tested a number af.hams recently. Their Field Day effort included

dedicated stations for most all of the 'free' categories -

satellite, Novice, VHF, packet. (we still beat their 2--A effort

-though; they don't have serious 'graveyard' aps, > BT Dave NOTES and

Jon KB0MBS were heard an the repeater recently discussing the 'new

generation' HTs. Wander how many hearts, or wallets, will be broken

in the next few months? BT Thanks to secretary Kathy N0XNJ who has

been not only organizing swapfest committee meetings and mailing

flyers, but who got a plant up to N0IQP's widow an short notice in

time for the funeral. KOBJ's family still has a plant given by Fleck:

K0RXT at the time of Bruce's brother's death; it's a nice memorial,

and reminder of their shared hobby aver the years.

ground strap will be main topics. We will specify work: details far Friday table setup and manning the food and

Trojan ARC tables Saturday. Not to mention the ever exciting cleanup detail (pray for leftover Pepsi!).
