MEETING AT NWS GOODLAND 7PM CST NOV 15
Note that our meeting is a week later than usual and we'll be doing final planning for the NWS Special Event December 1 GMT. We'll carpool from City Hall in Colby about 5:15 CT, and eat somewhere in Goodland around 6PM.NWS SPECIAL EVENT DEC 1
This is the final newsletter prior to that fun activity. This year we will have 3 stations operating simultaneously using NØA callsign. Probably as many as 75 or more NWS offices will field operations this year, so it will be a popular attraction on the HF bands. Operations begin at 6PM CST Friday Nov 30, and we'll be doing early setup (to be planned at Nov. meeting). Participating in this event will be well worth your travel time. We've agreed to help the Goodland guys with award certificate processing this year, and will probably have a workday for that sometime shortly before or after the holidays. Web info at http://hamradio.noaa.gov/FIELD DAY RESULTS - TROJANS RULE
The long-awaited Field Day rankings are out and it was not only the usual very fun outing this year, but a successful one score-wise as well. A sketchy, 3rd hand report from Darel WAØGBN had us thinking we may have lost to our arch-rivals the NOMADs this year, but the force was with us and we edged them 4452 to 4142. The NOMADS had a good effort with only 7 total ops. Their 1286 QSO count was also topped by our 1324. We finished 2nd in KS. KS box scores follow:WØRR Heart of America 1610 5488 2A KC

Another notable score was BARC Jr., kids ONLY from Boulder CO who operated 4A to 1473 Qs and score of 4442. A couple of their members have used our machine while on I-70. Remember there are no multipliers in FD. CW Qs are worth double of SSB, and there are all sorts of bonus points.
MT SUNFLOWER
KCØJAO NØXJ KØFJ and KØBJ met up with over a dozen SHARC members to put the highest point in Kansas on the air for 24 hours in late October. We made over 500 QSOs out of a school bus owned by NØOMC. The SHARC group has a snazzy Rohn 25 tower they put together and hoist up with a Force 12 C3 on top. Godfrey KCØAUH of Dodge City had a camper that became the mess hall. Aside from operating with an IC-756 Pro and having instant pileups, part of the attraction of this event is the visiting amongst members of the 2 clubs. The Trojans declared KØFJ an honorary SHARC member -- the way they go about erecting towers and doing business definitely makes Mike and his over-engineering ways a great fit for their club.2M ARES NET SUNDAYS 8PM
The latest local net schedule is for a Sunday evening get-together on 146.82. While there will be a bit of ARES training, the main idea is to get on and socialize a little, so don't hesitate to call and check in.A SAD/SCARY MONTH FOR TROJANS
Jim KØQP lost his mother to a heart attack. She'd gone to the hospital and was apparently progressing well when things went bad after a couple days. The club sent a plant. David KØKHP got a real test during his 1st year of HyPo duty. A maniac came into KS from the west on I-70 and was stealing and wrecking cars at a frenetic pace. KHP and other officers got into a rundown and shootout around Goodland, and ended up having to shoot the subject numerous times. David's patrol car was wrecked, but he had company -- the incident wrecked a boat and nearly a dozen cars! No innocent people were severely injured and David is doing fine.
PACKET RACKET de Mike KØFJ –
Allen KØMXU has the new antenna mount installed at the Hoxie Grade School Weather Node. Mike & Allen hope to install the rebuilt computer and move the equipment in the next week. Gil – KØBLU is looking for a APRS Digi site near Oberlin. A link in Oberlin would help connect our APRS network into the SW Nebraska area. Mike & Bruce are headed to the Hays ARC meeting on Tuesday the 13th to provide an APRS demo to the Hays Club.

WØTM, our friend Gary from KC/Vail, is on the February CQ calendar page. Well… his beautiful Vail Valley shack is, with neighbor Phil NØKE at the rig BT Creamcan attendance was good and with ideal weather, everyone had a good time. We erected a 40M vertical using KØFJ's new MFJ fiberglass mast and worked Huntsville on it. BT Brandon Tittel, son of Duane, has purchased Now You're Talking and is interested in getting a code license. Good luck and have fun, Brandon. BT KØBJ traveled to rural Beloit for the CW Sweepstakes with his college buddy KØWA and ABØS, as the QTH of WØNO where Mike KØFJ helped raise some Rohn 25 last year. This was a new QTH but familiar team to SS multiop contesting. The guys scored 1150 QSOs and got a clean sweep of mults at 9AM Sunday. Currently they're in 7th place nationwide in multi on the rumor slate, and 1st in Midwest Division. If that 1st holds up, it'll be their 3rd year in a row to win the plaque. BT A superb aurora graced the skies (but not the HF bands) last Monday night. Red clouds, rays and arches accented lots of low green aurora. This was one of the best ones in decades for our area. BT The latest area DX hounds, KCØJAO and KCØHBR, have been using their yagis to good effect. The guys have been logging lots of good stations including some Dxpeditions.BANDSCAN
(Cont) - BT KØBJ is working on the KØS certificate artwork with some remote help from Jon KBØMBS. Bruce is trying to learn Adobe Photoshop. Meantime Jeff KCØJAO has designed a nifty QSL "info" card we'll probably add to the mailing once we start fulfilling requests. BTNEXT
