REPEATER LINKING?
Linking our machine with another has been an often-discussed project for many years. Mike K0FJ visited with Terry N0KOM in ******* about linking the 82 machine with his. His is already linked to the Norton repeater, and has a receiver that we could use. We would need a new controller, beam antenna, and some coax. We should be able to hit his machine from 100 - 150 feet on the cell tower. This would get the coverage that the National Weather Service is looking for to our north. It might be possible to get some funds from NWS for this project…. Worth looking into anyway. This might be a relatively painless way to explore linking. Come with your thoughts on this.
CHRISTMAS DINNER IN OAKLEY
It was decided at the October meeting to move the annual Christmas dinner to the Colonial Steakhouse at the west I-70 exit in Oakley. The Colonial can cater to large crowds better than any Colby facility and their grub is highly touted too. This will be our normal meeting night, Thursday December 9 and we’ll meet starting at 6pm CST and eat at 6:30. We haven’t decided yet whether to include a gift exchange. Please give your preference at the November meeting or via email to one of the officers.2000 OFFICERS We will be electing officers at the November meeting. Nominations from the floor will be accepted if anyone wants to make this a horse race. Here’s the slate so far:
Kathy Lindberg N0XNJ for Pres
Jim Robison KG0PI for VP
Mike Albers K0FJ for S/T
Bruce Frahm K0BJ \for Prog Dir.
SWEEPSTAKES MULTIOP Mike K0FJ has approval from Patti and is hosting a big multioperator effort for Sideband Sweepstakes Nov. 20-21. Sweeps runs from 3pm Saturday to 9pm Sunday with a mandatory 6 hours off during the 30 hours. It features the longest info exchange of any contest, and QSOs are multiplied by the number of ARRL/Canadian sections logged. Stations getting all 80 sections in the log qualify for a commemorative coffee mug and that’s a major goal of our effort. We’ll be using Mike’s TS570 and K0BJ’s SB220 amp for the main station (no low power category for multiop stations in SS) and cruise for elusive mults with Mike’s TS830 and the club’s TH3 mounted on our trailer tower. We’ll also use the internet webcluster to track down the rare ones. This will be a fine opportunity to watch and practice contest operating skills – running rate, searching for mults, using the web/packet clusters (not to mention goofing off and having a good time) – in a non-intimidating environment. Ops and gawkers are both welcome to drop in, or spend some serious time at it.
PACKET BBS Some ops are still unaware that the packet bbs is up and running again as K0FJ in Colby. If your packet gear is idle, or you’re interested in getting started, check in on 145.01 or drop K0FJ a line for further info.
BANDSCAN K0BJ enjoyed getting reacquainted with some friends from 1979 on the repeater recently. Jake was HP1XUL and KZ5JM back when Bruce and Janice transited the Panama Canal. They enjoyed conversation and warm showers and Jake and his XYL Donna’s home. They’ve kept in touch at Christmas since, but no QSOs. Jake and Donna are retired and were on the road to the SE USA when the 2m QSO occurred. BT What’s your call again? K0BJ was surprised to log K0S after the Kansas Sideband Net recently. It wasn’t a dong-delayed echo from Mt. Sunflower though – the call was issued to hams attending a big star/telescope party under the dark skies of north-central Kansas. BT Welcome to Nathan KC0GLA who is now in the neighborhood living in Levant. Nathan works at Office Works. BT Don’t forget the big special event the last weekend of the month that was organized by Scott KB0WPY This one will activate NWS offices all across the USA on the hambands. BT Calvin Peck, who recently passed the Novice written, is headed off to Ft. Dodge IA for 2 weeks Guard training. He’s been eyeing dualband HTs and thinks he may make the jump pretty soon – should make the studying more inspiring!! BT

MEETING NOVEMBER 11 PIONEER MEMORIAL LIBRARY 7:00PM CDTElection of officers and repeater linking discussion are two of the topics. The video Contest Night Live which was AWOL at the last meeting is available for this one. Video quality is marginal….

Bruce - Would you add this to the info for the next newsletter? We also had
nomination of officers.
Kathy for Pres
Jim for VP
Mike for S/T
Bruce for Prog and newsletter
No one else was brave enough to show up or accept a nomination. Also
mention that we will be going to Colonial Steak House north of Oakley for
the Christmas party on Thursday Dec. 9th. We will try to meet there
between 6:00 and 6:30 and eat by 6:30. Those in Colby could meet in the HS
parking lot at 5:30 - 5:45 for a car pool if interested. Might mention that
all area hams are invited for this. We need to decide if we are going to
have any prizes for a drawing???
Have heard from several people that are unaware that the Packet BBS is back
up using K0FJ call. Could you mention that info in the N/L also Bruce?
Will be working CQWW this weekend, hope Bruce doesn't beat up on me to bad
with the amp...

Hello Mike,
Good to talk to you again. It's been a long time. I found the info on
my controler. I don't know if the model that I have is still in
production, or not. Anyway here it is
Creative Control Products
3185 Bunting Ave.
Grand Junction, CO
81504 (303)434-9405 Model # SRC-10
If you guys out there are still interested in linking together, let me
know, and maybe we can work it out. I have some more receivers laying
around that could be used. Probably wouldn't take too much to do it.
Well if you get down this way, look me up. May catch you again on 2
Meters. Have a good evening.

Terry
