Highlites of March 18, 2003 meeting
It was approved by the majority at the meeting to set a speed limit of moving equipment to a maximum of three (3) MPH for the tractor show.
This will be for ATV’s, Garden Tractor’s, Tractors, Golf Carts and another vehicles. This is for safety reasons. Also we will be watching closely for any moving vehicle passing the people mover on the right hand side. There were several close calls last year from ATV’s and Golf Carts passing the people mover as it was turning to the right.
Another safety factor that was approved was for any Garden Tractor puller under 14 years of age, there will be a walk along kill switch attached to the tractor. If for any reason the operator loses control the designated safety officer can kill the engine on the tractor.
Some of these rules may not be popular to all parties concerned, but we will have a lot of people milling around and we definitely don’t want any injuries.
We are reviewing several food vendors and their menu’s and cost’s. We wouldn’t mind having someone with some different foods as well as our regulars but we would like for the cost to be as reasonable as possible and the vendor still make some money.
Update on the vote to pay $25 per month to the church for the use of their meeting room. The church gave the check back to us. We agreed that if they had a family that had some hard times let us know and we would make a donation to them.
Just a rumor going around. I hear that there is going ’s on at that building besides Tractor Club meetings. You mite check it out some Sunday morning and let us know.
That’s the Church of Christ at 1st and High in Caney, Ks. Block South of cemetery on Highway 75 , then 3 blocks West.
We had about 47 visitors and members present.

Some note’s from National
The National insurance cost have been adjusted again. The cost per member will be $4.80 or total $8.80 insurance and National membership. We need to make a decision on the way to handle the bookkeeping in the club. Those that paid early paid $10.50, later payers paid $8.80 or $1.70 less. We can ask all to pay $10.50 or refund $1.70 to the early payers. Will need to be brought up at next meeting.

Adrian, Mo. Swap Meet
The weather man definitely cooperated for the Adrian Mo. swap meet over the weekend of March 21-22. June made me go on Saturday. They had a good amount of swappers and buyers. Didn’t count them but probably 50 or so with a good line of rusty stuff. June bought another Panzer garden tractor. Makes her two of them. This is the first time we have been able to go and we were impressed with their grounds and their swap meet. If you haven’t been you should try to go next year.

Orscheln’s annual April Show
Man What a Day

After 4 or 5 years or however many years we have been having shows at Orscheln’s we finally hit a half way descent day weather wise. It wasn’t super warm but not too bad. Rick Wilson, manager of the store was pleased with the crowd. We had 34 big tractors and 6 garden tractors. Couple or three new additions to the line up. Bill Morris just finished a W4 IHC. Bill Ernest has acquired a new "Leader" tractor and a new "Case". Bill Chapman just finished his Sinclair Oil Company Case Industrial with a sickle mower attached. June had her new "Panzer" garden tractor. We also had the popcorn truck. We popped 20 pounds of popcorn and gave it away. Orscheln’s furnished the corn, sacks and corn. We just popped it. We had a first this year. The Independence Reporter sent a photographer and a reporter to the show. We made the front page of the Sunday Paper. Alan Coots, one of our new members made the front page with a picture of him with his David Bradley Tri Trac garden tractor.
We sold several tickets on our fund raiser items. Not as much as we did a few years ago, but every little bit helps. Money seems to be a little tighter lately.
The crowd seemed to enjoy the old tractors. A lot of them seem to relive their earlier days. A lot of them add to the atmosphere with their own tales.

Minor problems keep cropping up at the Industrial Park show grounds. The City of Caney has decided to start selling off their land (about a third of our show grounds) . We outgrew the grounds for an hour or two last year. With a third less land it will be very binding. I feel we are lucky that we are getting away from the City of Caney. They have never really supported the tractor club. We get possession of our land after wheat harvest this summer, probably around July 1st. Perhaps we should consider changing the name of the club to the Havana tractor club. Just Kidding. Please remember this is just my opinion.

Sedan wants us to be in their parade for the Yellow Brick Road Festival again this year on May 24.

Caney "Mayfest" also wants the club to bring a display to their show, also on May 24.
