Our 2003 Show Hugh Success

In spite of the actions of the Caney City administration our show was a tremendous success. JoAnne done a superb job of laying out the ground we had left on paper.
Several folks measured and drove stakes at the corners of the spaces. Alta assigned numbers and put a sticker on the corner of each lot. Everything clicked as if we knew what we were doing. There has been a lot of positive comments on the layout. Some have said it was the best yet. Fortunately we didn’t have to determine how we would have functioned had it rained. The new ice machine that Lou Naccaroto fixed up saved our lives with adequate ice, stored in all kinds of loaned deep freezes. Friday was not as pleasant as it could have been as it got very hot. It was kinda hard on the vendors. The crowd disappeared. You could have shot a gun across the grounds right after lunch and not hit anyone. One thing it done was give our work crews a break. Very few complaints that I heard. The biggest complaint I had was during the auction a fellow drove down from Wichita to see the consigned belt buckles that were advertised. He seen the flyer at the service station on Highway 400 at Severy. The consignor sold them after they were listed. The guy was not a happy camper but there was nothing we could do. We are at the mercy of the consignors. They tell us they will sell something, then if they don’t there is nothing we can do.

We have been invited to participate in the Washington County Oklahoma Fair, which runs Aug 19-23. We can set up as a group and show our tractors and stuff. Those interested nedd to contact Richard or Diane Foster at 918-535-2662 so they can determint which day to set up Wal-Mart Tractor and Car Show on July 12.
What started out as a rainy, gloomy day turned into a satisfactory show. They ended up with probably 20 cars and 20 tractors. None of us thought to count the exhibits. Rain quit and all went well.

To those that haven’t heard.
We lost a friend and fellow showman on July 2, 2003. Bob Mobley passed away after a short battle with cancer. His Old Engine trailer will be missed at area shows. Our sentiments go out to his wife and partner showman, Charlotte and his family.
******
Fellow member Lee Jones had a 4 bypass heart surgery on June 26. Getting back up and going and is doing well.
******
Doyle and Wilba Gorby will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on August 2nd. All are invited to attend the renewal of vows at 1:00 P.M. at the Assembly of God Church in Caney at 2nd street and Highway 75. Open house 1:00 to 5:00 hosted by children. Please no gifts but cards would be nice.

The family of Bob Mobley would like to thank every one for the cards, calls, visits, memorial on the web site, and other acts of kindness during our loss. We are blessed with wonderful friends. Love, Charlotte
