Hands-On OpportunitiesAs the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we see that we are connected to persons beyond ourselves. In our continual quest for *unity, we find a need to be involved in outreach beyond ourselves. Currently we are seeking a volunteer in a very "hands-on" type of way in area service organizations. If you are interested in sharing our vision of unity by being "Christ's hands and feet in the world", contact Suz at 785-234-0469. *"Unity is our Polar Star" (Barton W. Stone)
Our MissionWest Side Christian Church celebrates Christ's presence in the world. We joyfully gather for praise and worship, seek opportunities to learn and serve, and share life in Christ with the community and the world.
Church ProfileOur Church AffiliationsOur congregation is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and all cooperative agencies of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The Regional Church of which we are a part is the Christian Church in Kansas (Disciples of Christ). We are also affiliated in cooperation with Interfaith of Topeka Inc.; Doorstep Inc. of Topeka; Kansas Ecumenical Ministries; the National Council of Churches in the United States of America; and the World Council of Churches. Our Beliefs and PracticesBaptism - We practice baptism by immersion when a person is old enough to have a foundational understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. We enter the waters of baptism to shed our old life and to rise with Christ into a newness of life. Communion - We practice weekly observation of communion, which is also known as the Lord's Supper. At the Lord's Table we remember the saving gift of Jesus Christ and celebrate His living presence in our lives and with the church. All believers in Christ are welcome to partake of the emblems of the Lord's Supper. Government - We have a congregational form of church government. The members of the congregation elect men and women to serve on the General Board, which conducts the business of the church. Membership InformationThe participating members and non-members of West Side Christian Church totals approximately 520 persons. A person can become a member through confession of faith and baptism or by transfer of membership from another congregation.
