| In 1909, the Christian Women's Board of Missions, composed of members from the various Christian Churches in Topeka, established a Bible School known as Auburndale Mission. It was located in a wooden frame tabernacle at the corner of Stephens and Linden Streets. This Bible School was maintained for about three years, and then R. C. Harding organized a small church known as Auburndale Christian Church. J. Ira Jones became the pastor of this congregation in 1912. The church was new and small, and after a while, many members including Pastor Jones moved their membership to other Christian Churches. In 1914, Evangelist Clara H. Hazelrigg became pastor of the church. Under her leadership a stone basement was completed at the corner of Duane and Lindenwood Streets. On June 21, 1916, the name of the church was changed to West Side Christian Church, and the church was incorporated on March 15, 1920. In 1923, four lots were purchased at 6th and Lindenwood and the cornerstone for a new building was laid on October 7, 1923. This new building was dedicated on May 4, 1924, and served as the meeting place of the congregation until 1959. The cost of this structure, including lots, building, furniture and fixtures, was $31,000. In October, 1931, after completing seventeen years of fruitful ministry, because of ill health, Evangelist Hazelrigg asked to be relieved of her position as minister of the congregation. Through the years the work of West Side Christian Church progressed and on February 22, 1959, the congregation moved into the new and much needed Education Unit. This was a three-story unit costing $200,000. This Education Unit was dedicated on June 21, 1959, as part of the observance of the fiftieth anniversary of West Side Christian Church. The old building, which had been condemned, was razed in April 1959. On February 28, 1965, a ground breaking service for a new sanctuary and office unit was held on the site of the old sanctuary. This unit was dedicated on March 6, 1966. Completed at a cost of $208,000, it contains a sanctuary which seats 340 persons, three offices, a choir room, sacristy, and baptismal dressing rooms. The following is a list of those who have served as ministers of West Side Christian Church during its history:
